The war memorial to the left of the former North door commemorates the ‘Men of Mathon’ who were killed in the line of duty during the First World War. Before joining up they worked as farmers and farm workers, a blacksmith, a game keeper, a thatcher and a farm waggoner. They died in such notable battles as Gallipoli, the Somme, Vimy Ridge, the Arras Front and the second battle of Ypres.
